Matt Mifflin

Matt Mifflin is a professional guitarist, educator, and musician from Kenosha, Wisconsin. In 2017 he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and his Master's degree in Classical Guitar from Northwestern University in 2020. In addition to his studies in classical music, Mifflin has over 14 years experience as an electric guitarist with primary focus in metal. He has studied with notable figures in the industry such as Oliver Herbert (All That Remains) and Teemu Mäntysaari (Megadeth, Wintersun).

In 2013 Mifflin was awarded one of two four-year music scholarships to attend the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. From 2013-2017 he studied Classical Guitar performance under George Lindquist and performed as a soloist in multiple recitals and was a member of the UW-Parkside Guitar Ensemble. Additionally, he studied viola as a secondary instrument under Alvaro Garcia and was a member of the UW-Parkside Symphony Orchestra. He graduated with honors in 2017.

In 2018 he began graduate studies at Northwestern University in Classical Guitar. During his time at Northwestern he studied guitar performance, history, and pedagogy under Anne Waller, as well as Renaissance Lute under Mark Maxwell. He was a member of the Northwestern University Guitar Ensemble (Classical Guitar), Baroque Music Ensemble (Baroque Guitar), Contemporary Music Ensemble (Electric Guitar), and Contemporary Vocal Ensemble (Electric Guitar). Additionally, Mifflin taught non-music major guitar lessons, the beginning guitar class, and was a teaching assistant for the Northwestern University Summer guitar workshop.

 

Upon completing graduate studies in music, merging his two greatest passions, performing and teaching, he formed Matt Mifflin Music, offering classical guitar performances as well as lessons in classical, electric, and acoustic guitar. Additionally, Matt began teaching at Carthage College in the fall of 2023, teaching applied guitar as well as Popular Music in America.

Throughout his career he has performed on classical guitar, electric guitar, renaissance lute, baroque guitar, and viola. Major performances include but are not limited to the Chicago Opera Premiere of David T. Little's Dog Days (Electric Guitar), Northwestern University Baroque Music Ensemble (Baroque Guitar), Taste of Wisconsin Artist (Classical Guitar), and Dismalimerence (Electric Guitar).
